THE DACER MURDER CASE, ALMONTE, FVR

November 25, 2008

John Marzan on a few things you might find interesting about the Bubby Dacer case.

Intriguing tidbits indeed from old references:

Ramos visit to Dacer’s office on that fateful day of the disappearance was very uncharacteristic. In the many years of Dacer and Ramos’ professional dealings, never once did Ramos visit Dacer’s office. But on the day of Dacer’s kidnapping Ramos did, and after only an hour of waiting he started making it too obvious he was concerned—by calling media about his alarm over Dacer’s disappearance.

It could have just been traffic, a flat tire or engine trouble, a sudden family emergency, a bum stomach, an extended breakfast meeting, or a hundred other small possibilities that delayed Dacer for an hour.

Another…

the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announces to the public that the case has been solved, as its officials presented before the media, two eyewitnesses and a bag of charred bones plus dentures that they claimed were Dacer’s and his driver Emmanuel Corbito’s but which still had to undergo DNA testing for positive verification.

Then one witness showed the media a pair of brown loafers which he claimed belonged to Dacer and which the killers gave him for his own use. He even went to the extent of claiming that the pair of shoes used to be white, but that they were brown today because he had dyed the pair brown…

It was later discovered that the pair of shoes shown by the witness could not have belonged to Dacer or Corbito. And forensics still had not determined whether the charred bones were human bones.

Then this ‘revelation’ from a Father Baldostamon:

Fr. Baldostamon is the parish priest of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary church in Sun Valley Subd. where the Dacer family lives.

He claimed to have heard Almonte “consoling” the Dacer family that should they recover or “arrange” for Dacer’s release, they would spirit him out to the United States and make it appear that he was still missing.
Baldostamon said Almonte made the statement in a breakfast meeting with the Dacer family about 10 days after his disappearance.

Very interesting indeed.  Why did I miss these?

Thanks John Marzan!

…the picture that paints a thousand words.

Former Speaker of the House Joe de Venecia wonders aloud, ” what’s a President of the Republic of the Philippines, her husband… what’s the chairman of the Commission on Elections who’s supposed to be busy preparing for the elections… what’s the Speaker of the House like me… doing at the headquarters of ZTE??”

De Venecia finally finds the courage.

HERE COME THE SUPERCOMPUTERS!

November 19, 2008

Supercomputers are here and they are changing the face of science.

A new crop of supercomputers is breaking down the petaflop speed barrier, pushing high-performance computing into a new realm that could change science more profoundly than at any time since Galileo, leading researchers say.

AMAZING ENRILE

November 17, 2008

In a weird turn of events, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile is suddenly Senate President.

This old political warrior would be President but for utter lack of charisma.  In elections, he almost always barely wins.  But a brilliant, foxy fellow this creature is.  He is attracted to power and gets to it only through patient waiting and positioning.  Traditional politician to the core, he jumps from one side to another side with the ease of an acrobat, mindful only of the principles of survival.  This latest blessing to his person seems  to have fallen on his lap by force of circumstance, with his little prodding, perhaps.  This is the highest political office he has come thus far.  Will he remain a loyal administration ally?  We’ll see.  Remember that he was Estrada’s party president chairman-emeritus before he jumped over to Gloria and changed his tune accordingly.  He certainly could do the reverse this time as casually as before.   Senator Panfilo Lacson is saying Malacañang has no hand in this.  If true, the days ahead are interesting to watch; these people know Sun Tzu and Machiavelli like the back of their hands.

MINI NUKE PLANTS IN THE WORKS

November 14, 2008

Nuclear power plants smaller than a garden shed and able to power 20,000 homes will be on sale within five years, say scientists at Los Alamos, the US government laboratory which developed the first atomic bomb.

The miniature reactors will be factory-sealed, contain no weapons-grade material, have no moving parts and will be nearly impossible to steal because they will be encased in concrete and buried underground.

AH, WHAT A TIME IT IS TO BE A ROTARIAN!

November 14, 2008

He was read passages from the bible.  He was read and made to recite the Rotarian’s Four-Way Test.  But that was all they could do to this blog’s Rotarian of the Decade.

On the radio this morning, they were having a field day making fun of Rotarians.

PHRASES MOST ANNOYING

November 9, 2008

Top ten most annoying phrases according to Oxford:

1 – At the end of the day
2 – Fairly unique
3 – I personally
4 – At this moment in time
5 – With all due respect
6 – Absolutely
7 – It’s a nightmare
8 – Shouldn’t of
9 – 24/7
10 – It’s not rocket science

Absolutely , I personally think at this moment in time that  it’s a fairly unique and just observation.  With all due respect, it’s a nightmare listening to people mouthing those phrases 24/7.  But then, at the end of the day, really now, it’s not rocket science, is it?

A PRAYERFUL PRESIDENT

I am fascinated by pictures of people in prayer.  If only we could peer into the thoughts as they commune with their gods… if only we had the power to see the things they do afterwards…

GOOD NEWS: MIRIAM LOSES BID IN WORLD COURT

November 7, 2008

Rejoice all ye! RP fails to win seat in the International Court of Justice. I would be sad if not for this injudicious choice of Miriam Defensor-Santiago as RP candidate.  Incredible presumptousness on our part to even think that one of our clowns would be acceptable as justice of the World Court.
