A mathematical equation known as Gaussian copula function, formulated by a math wiz, is the cause of the  global economic meltdown that started at Wall Street.   In the hands of profit-oriented financial managers with scarce understanding of the underlying math, an achievement worth a Nobel prize became a recipe for disaster.
